Growing Memories

Over the past few years, I have really enjoyed gardening—  herbs, flowers, homegrown vegetables, I like it all! However, being a new mom has shifted my focus a bit and that has led to an even better summer in the garden than I expected!

This year has been full of learning, growing, and adapting to the changes that come my way, and my garden is no exception. I had big dreams for it this year. A large variety of flowers, plenty of herbs to share with friends, and all the tomatoes I could dream of. While half the flowers I planted never bloomed and I barely grew enough herbs to make one loaf of bread, we’ve been having lots of fun!

Every week, my niece and nephews come over and we spend all afternoon playing in the backyard. Together, we’ve picked flowers (or sometimes just the petals and dirt!) and snacked on cherry tomatoes, Cucamelons, and even mint. This has been one of my favorite parts of summer. Experiencing the colors, smells, and tastes of the garden through their eyes has been such a gift.

As fall approaches, we are harvesting seeds and drying some of my favorite herbs for soup season. Who knows, maybe we’ll get adventurous and try pickling some vegetables!
