The Same Mirror, A New Me
That probably sounds simple. But for me, it’s starting to feel…sacred.
As I begin showing up more on this platform and just online in general, Im feeling a pull to share the fuller picture. Not just the curated highlights or polished reels.
But the real.
The awkward.
The holy.
The unraveling.
The becoming.
So here’s something honest:
I got my hair braided recently.
New style. Fresh look.
And when I first saw myself in the mirror, I laughed a little not because it looked bad.
But because I wasn’t sure what I was looking at haha. Like who is this person and now 24 hours later, I realized something…A soft and gentle thought came to mind:
What if this is my Blasian evolution?
—
For most of my life, I just wanted to belong.
To not feel like the kid at the cultural lunch table holding the wrong tray.
I used to wish my skin were darker—so I could feel more accepted in Black spaces.
I used to wish I spoke fluent Korean—so I could truly understand my 엄마
And I know I’m not the only one.
Some of us have prayed for parts of ourselves to disappear.
Others have tried to revive parts they never had the chance to know.
Many of us have lived in between-between cultures, between codes, between corners;
just waiting to feel whole in a world that keeps asking us to split.
But here’s what I’m beginning to understand:
Maybe I wasn’t made to pick a side.
Maybe I was made to be a bridge.
Maybe this… this braiding of worlds, this blending of bloodlines, this becoming, is what evolution really looks like.
Not choosing one culture over the other.
Not fitting into a box that was never mine.
But letting both stories dance together
and discovering how God shows up in the in-between.
Maybe growing out my hair is spiritual.
Maybe sharing a selfie is sacred.
Maybe this is digital wellness, too
using our platforms not just to post,
but to be seen.
To help others feel seen, too.
Because that’s what Jesus did, right?
He didn’t just sit with the ones who belonged.
He created belonging.
For the woman at the well.
For the tax collector.
For the child.
For the Samaritan.
He made wholeness feel possible.
He reminded us:
You already belong.
You were always worthy.

A few questions for the journey this week:
-
What parts of yourself have you hidden in order to be accepted?
-
What parts of your culture deserve to be honored and not erased?
-
Where have you been told you were too much of one thing, or not enough of another?
-
What if your “two or more” isn’t a mistake to fix but a mission to embrace?
-
How can you help build spaces where others feel safe to show up whole?
—
We need more bridges.
More middle spaces.
More digital villages
where people don’t just scroll past each other,
but sit long enough to be known.
Because maybe the future isn’t about going viral.
Maybe it’s about going deeper.
Building slow.
Creating sacred space online where wholeness is welcome.
Where culture isn’t erased but embraced, celebrated, and seen.
So here’s your invitation:
Embrace all of who you are.
Help others do the same.
And as you show up online-
don’t just post.
Plant roots.
Build a bench.
Offer a seat.
Because the world doesn’t need another influencer.
It needs more villagers.
More of us choosing to live honestly.
To belong without boxes.
To tell the truth of who we are AND invite others to do the same.
Welcome to the evolution.
Let’s build.
Let’s grow.
Let’s village.
